How to Choose the Right Flooring for Your Bedroom

The bedroom is seen by many as their haven. A spot where they can rest and relax or hide away when things get a little noisy or hectic. With pleasing aesthetics, welcoming scents and all-around comfort, a bedroom can almost transport you away from the craziness of modern life, putting you in a mood similar to if you’re on holiday.

The thing is, this isn’t just created by sticking a bed in the room, lighting some incense and finding the comfiest blanket. Much comes down to how the room is furnished and decorated.

In this blog, we take a look at bedroom flooring and how choosing the right style will help you transform your bedroom into the room you want it to be.

What Flooring Can Be Used In The Bedroom?

Practically any type of flooring can be used for the bedroom. Some materials lend themselves to certain room styles better than others, but personal taste can also play a part in how well your chosen floor suits the room.

Wood flooring in a bedroom is a popular choice, especially in a more rustic setting, carpet is universally popular thanks to its comfort and assortment of styles. We then have luxury vinyl tiling, a stylish and durable option for bedrooms of all sizes and then you could look at laminates, a cheaper option that provides a good substitute for natural materials.

So, the simple question is….which one? Well, let’s find out!

What To Look For In Bedroom Flooring

So, you’ve decided to transform your bedroom, and you are literally working from the floorboards up. This means you’ll need to start with the flooring! There are several factors you need to take into consideration when planning what flooring style will suit your bedroom. While some may not seem important, each can play a significant role in the final look your room delivers.

Comfort

We’ll start with the easy one. Even though your bedroom isn’t frequented as often, or by as many people, as the kitchen or bathroom, it is a room where comfort needs to be a priority. After all, it’s where you rest and recuperate after a busy day or a heavy night out! Think about when you first wake up in the morning too. You don’t want to be stepping onto a slippery or freezing cold surface!

This means you’ll be looking for something that provides both softness and warmth. Carpet is an obvious choice, but you shouldn’t discount LVT. Luxury Vinyl Tiles provide both, and thanks to the underfloor heating capability, you can control the level of warmth to the levels you like.

Sound Absorption

It might not be something you give much thought but having a floor in your bedroom that soaks up sound can be hugely beneficial. Most of us have TVs, smart speakers and perhaps games consoles in our bedrooms these days. Most of us also have bedrooms that are not on the ground floor. As a result, any loud sounds can easily be transferred from your bedroom to the rooms below. Not ideal for those living with you, and not ideal if you live in a block of flats where the noise could disrupt multiple residents.

Carpet once again seems to be a good choice for this, but laminate, and again, LVT flooring can also help stop noise from spreading. It is probably best to avoid a tiled or hardwood floor though as sound passes through them much easier.

Styles

One of the main things you want your bedroom to do is look good. The flooring plays a huge part in this, but you need to make sure it matches both the general room aesthetic and your personal style. It can often be that you discover your ideal style through trial and error. You might play around with design ideas and tweak things as you go. This can take time and money. This is perhaps another reason why LVT flooring ticks a box here too. LVT has been created to replicate the styles of wood and stone as well as abstract colourways to deliver a sense of originality and character.

You can do the same with wood flooring too. Various patterns can be implemented in a host of colours. You then, of course, have carpet. Vast collections from a host of companies deliver pastel shades or vibrant colours, intricate designs or simple patterns. Before you choose though. Look at what else you’ll be doing with the bedroom décor. Opting for a rather bright carpet or a particular style of vinyl tile may not align with the rest of the room.

Floor Care

None of us are truly fans of cleaning, we do it because we have to. If though, we could reduce how much we do or at least reduce the amount of effort put into each job, things would be so much better! Your bedroom flooring can help with this!

Certain flooring is easy to clean, lasts for ages and doesn’t scratch, stain or wear down. This is where carpet falters a little. It can definitely last for ages, but it can stain, and as a result, isn’t always easy to clean. Smoother floors though, such as engineered wood or LVT are known for their low maintenance properties and their stain resistance.

These key considerations should give you plenty to think about when choosing your bedroom flooring. From the few we have covered, it would appear LVT is the better option due to its all-rounder qualities. It looks good, is easy to clean, suits an array of styles and provides good sound absorption. Carpet also performs well and is probably the most common choice. With variable patterns, plenty of comfort and great sound-cancelling qualities, it is easy to see why many choose it.
