If you’re planning on redesigning a bedroom, bathroom or a place to relax then you might be thinking about calming colours which offer solace at the end of the day. Most people think of neutral colours when it comes to calming colours but this doesn’t have to be the case.
There are a whole host of design aspects, options and colours to choose from when you want to create a calming decor. First, you need to decide what purpose the room will serve as this will inform your choice.
For Your Bathroom
If planning a bathroom renovation, then why not try the classic black, white and grey combo? These colours have been trending for bathrooms for a long time now and add both clean, sharp lines as well as soothing natural tones if you use slate flooring or tiles.
If you don’t like the sound of the classic look then you can always inject some fun with a neutral colour to base your design around. Get a pastel pink, orange or purple-bottomed tub to create a focal point. You can also add colour to the odd tile so that your colour scheme isn’t overwhelming but presents an inviting look.
Bedroom Hues
Whether you intend to use a conversion for your main bedroom or just as a spare, it needs to be somewhere nice and relaxing to stay the night. You only need one colour, or a combination of two, and you don’t need to completely cover your walls. Keep plenty of blank space so you can hang calming coloured decorations. A clock, a simple frame or some scattered cushions will do the job of injecting some life into the room whilst still keeping it calm.
A soft serene bedroom is always more welcome at the end of a long day than loud, fizzy colours.
Home Office Space
Turning your unused space into an office or hobby room is a popular choice these days but you’ll need this room to be somewhere you can concentrate. Calming colours and pastel shades of blues, greens and reds will help to create an atmosphere suited for a quiet space.
You can keep everything peaceful and harmonious with your choice of colour and add accessories which help the room come to life – ornaments or book ends keep the look of the room tidy and practical but offer a little life and shape.
Using Shapes
While you might think that calming colours can be dull, you can offer excitement in your decor by using different shapes for your designs. You can use geometric shapes or ad hoc shapes to break up the colour and make your room look more eye-catching whilst still keeping the overall feeling of calm.
