Why Is My Boiler Light Flashing Blue?

When boilers are functioning as they should, you don’t really have to think about them. They tend to be relatively simple to operate and look after, with just a couple of buttons and lights on the front, often behind a cover. If you notice that your boiler light is flashing blue, it could mean a number of things, depending on the make and model. Here we take a quick look at what it could mean, and what you should do about it.

There’s A Pressure Issue

One of the most popular manufacturers of boilers nowadays in the UK is Worcester Bosch. If you have a boiler made by this company and the light is flashing blue, then it’s probably the case that your boiler has a pressure issue.

This could mean that there isn’t enough gas coming to your boiler, either because there’s a blockage or some other related issue. If the blue light is flashing, the boiler should have shut down, to help avoid a potentially more serious malfunction. No matter the issue, it’s important that you get a Gas Safe certified engineer around from somewhere like Able Plumbing Solutions, so they can take a look and sort out the underlying problem.

A Gas Leak

Lots of boilers nowadays have sensors to detect potential leaks. If your boiler is flashing blue and it’s an error code, then it’s possible that there’s a leak. If you can also smell gas, then it’s crucial that you get an emergency technician around as soon as possible. You might also want to open windows and doors, to try to ventilate the area and avoid any dangerous buildups. Gas leaks are not something to play around with, and you should always get them checked out the moment you notice an issue.

A Water Pressure Issue

It’s also possible that there’s an issue with the water pressure. In these situations, the boiler might turn itself off and cut off the gas supply, to avoid overheating the appliance. One way of testing if this is the case is by simply turning on the hot water tap. If nothing comes out, this could be your issue.

Again, a plumber will be able to help you get to the bottom of the issue, and should be able to sort it out for you. There can be a lot of different causes behind pressure problems, from faulty water pumps to burst water pipes.

It’s Running Normally

With so many makes of boilers on the market, it’s possible that a flashing blue light could indicate that the boiler is running as intended. If, however, the light has suddenly come on or changed how it flashes, it could be worth getting someone around to check on it, even if you haven’t noticed any other problems. It won’t take long to work out if everything is running as it should, and it’ll put your mind at rest.

Clearly, it’s difficult to say exactly what it means if your boiler is flashing blue without knowing more about the boiler itself. If you suspect an issue, it’s definitely worth getting further advice from a technician; it won’t cost much to get it checked out, and it could help prevent a far more serious issue from occurring.
